How do we uphold corporate social responsibility?

We are committed to upholding corporate responsibility by embedding ethical, environmental, and social values into our operations. We aim to contribute positively to society and the planet.

Our Mission

Our vision is to become the leading supplier of nutritional products in Europe. This includes recognising our environmental impact and taking proactive measures to minimise any adverse effects.

Our Actions

Environmental Impact

  • Renewable Energy: 100% of our electricity is sourced from renewable energy, supported by solar panels installed at our site.
  • Green Commuting: We encourage eco-friendly commuting through our cycle-to-work scheme, car sharing initiatives, and electric vehicle charging facilities.
  • Zero Waste Commitment: Our site operates with a zero-waste-to-landfill policy. Recycling is promoted across all departments, and food waste is sent for anaerobic digestion, converting it into energy fed back into the grid.

Supply Chain Sustainability

We work to reduce our environmental impact throughout the supply chain by:

  • Consolidated Shipments: Reducing the number of shipments bringing raw materials to the UK, cutting down on emissions.
  • Supplier Audits: Encouraging and supporting our suppliers to register with Sedex and undergo SMETA (Sedex Members Ethical Trade Audit). This ensures ethical and environmental responsibility is maintained across the supply chain.

Ethical Trading Initiative (ETI) Base Code

The ETI base code, integrated within the Sedex framework, outlines the standards we expect our suppliers to follow. These include:

  • Freely chosen employment.
  • Safe and healthy working conditions.
  • Fair wages and reasonable working hours.

By promoting adherence to these principles, we foster ethical labour practices and transparency while building trust among businesses, suppliers, and consumers.

B Corp Certification

Cambridge Commodities is proud to be part of the global B Corp movement, which uses business as a force for good. This certification aligns us with a community of organisations committed to transforming the economy to benefit people, communities, and the planet.

The B Corp movement strives to:

  • Shift economic systems from prioritising profit to promoting equity and regeneration.
  • Embrace interdependence to achieve sustainable development for all.

Giving Back to the Community

Charitable initiatives are an integral part of our corporate responsibility. Our team actively participates in fundraising events and community activities, such as:

  • Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT): We have supported ACT through charity balls, bake sales, cycle rides, and providing Christmas presents for patients.
  • Ongoing Charity Support: Regular events like food bank donations, fancy dress days, and skydives help raise funds for local, national, and international causes.

Addenbrooke's Charitable Trust (ACT) is the only registered charity (no 1048868) dedicated to supporting innovation in patient care across Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. ACT was our Charity of the Year in 2019. We supported them by taking part in the Flanders cycle ride, hosting a charity ball, fancy dress days and holding a 'Bake Off'. All for medical staff and students at Addenbrooke's to propose their own ideas for bettering the lives and healthcare of those admitted at the hospital. We also made sure that everyone staying at Addenbrooke’s had their very own present to unwrap on Christmas Day.

Our Commitment

Corporate responsibility is at the heart of Cambridge Commodities. Through our environmental initiatives, supply chain ethics, B Corp values, and community support, we aim to make a meaningful, positive impact on society and the environment.
